Ntando Cele is a performing artist from Durban; KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. She has a National Diploma in Drama Studies from the Durban University of Technology (1999-2001) and obtained her Master of Theater from Dasarts-Amsterdam (2009-2012).
Cele has worked on a diverse number of projects as a freelance artist; in 2012 she was invited by the Kuona Trust International Residency, Kenya, where she worked with local performers and spoke at Goethe Nairobi. Cele says she creates work as interaction/reaction/exclusion to what happens around her.
In 2013 she created a sight specific project for Infecting the City, Cape Town. As a performance maker and workshop facilitator, she has been invited to perform Face Off at the Zürcher Theaterspektakel, the Festival Belluard, Switzerland and Compagnie Theater, Amsterdam as part of Neu\NOW Festival 2013. She combines Music, Text and Video recreating her identity in her Performances. Face Off was nominated for the ZKB Anerkennungspreis, 2012, and recently she was invited as a member of the jury for the ZKB Preis as part of the Zürcher Theater Spektakel 2013. In 2014 she is invited as part of Akademie Schloss Solitude and her latest show Black Notice will be touring South Africa and Europe.
